Most people understand truth as representational truth, meaning a statement can only be classified as true or false if it refers to or represents something in the concrete world. Example: “It is raining outside”. This can be checked by going outside to verify whether it is indeed raining. When aspects can easily be seen, we tie our statements to the objects, processes or affairs. This is also called the correspondence theory of truth and relies on empirical representation.
The more complex approach to truth includes subjective truthfulness. Example: “I am happy”. There is no way of checking the accuracy of this statement without entering into further discussion, since we are assessing a topic which is not represented in the concrete world (or isn’t backed by a Law of Nature).
The difficulty with subjective truthfulness is that not only might I be lying to you, I could also be lying to myself, often without being aware of it myself. In our simplistic example, I could honestly tell you that I am happy (so I am being true to you), but I’ve not admitted to myself that I am not happy (so I am not being true to myself). Is my statement thus true or false?
The amazing fact is that truth alone will not set one free. Only truthfulness will set one free.

Filters Obscure Reality
0 Comments EMail This Post Published by Michael December 31st, 2006 in Musings, World ViewThrough education systems, the media, our individual background, our cultural background, our social institutions, our parents and peers, we have been culturally conditioned into adopting a web of opinions through which we interpret reality. We only see what the web of our opinions allows us to see. It obscures the true nature of life like a veil, giving us the illusion that we know who we are and what life is all about. It may be comfortable to live in the false security of this consensus pseudo-reality, as the majority do, but we pay a high price. We stop feeling really alive, and we believe that our filters are the only correct filters. We start believing in absolutes, instead of embracing the never-ending journey of reducing filters.
An example: Some non-human cultures can be very sophisticated. Wolves, for example, although beasts, can hunt and coordinate in packs through a very sophisticated emotional signal system. They share an intricate emotional worldspace.
Yet anything outside that world system is not registered. You could read the Bible to them, but no luck. What you are, with that book, is basically dinner plus a few bits that will have to be spat out.
The point is that we humans respond, and can respond, only to stimuli that fall within our worldspace, our worldview. Everything else is non-existent – often spat out and discarded.
Since no human can possibly gain all knowledge, our filters always discard information that would be useful/meaningful at a higher level of consciousness. Truly enlightened individuals understand that the removal of filters is an infinite task: the more filters that are removed, the more filters the individual becomes aware of. This is the Conundrum of Enlightenment.

Stages of Human Development
0 Comments EMail This Post Published by Michael November 15th, 2006 in Spirituality, World ViewAll of life is a process, a continual process.
We all start equally at Square One. Progress along the Continuum of Life is determined by, among others:
- Social Environment
- Personal Aptitude and Hunger for Knowledge
- Family Background
- Religious Involvement…
The Development of Consciousness can be described as progression from:
- Materialism to Spirituality, or
- Egocentric to Globalcentric
Many theorists have named the different stages in human development. One of the simplest and easiest conception of the stages can be found in Scott Peck’s book, The Different Drum, in which he describes the progression from selfish child to self-giving sage. Peck’s stages are these:
- Chaotic, antisocial
- Formal, institutional
- Skeptic, individual
- Mystic, communal

This will be a controversial show, investigating the 5 major world religions and how they are used to enslave and control us as we move ever closer to globalization. If you currently follow any religion this is a must-hear show which will challenge you to rethink many of the beliefs you’ve held dear for years. Have a pen and paper handy to take notes to discuss with your religious leader.

US Elections - A Perfect Example of Staged Politics
0 Comments EMail This Post Published by Michael November 10th, 2006 in Current EventsHere’s the flavor of most news and politics international commentators regarding the November US mid-term elections:
US midterm election results that heralded a massive power shift in the American political landscape were greeted with jubilation around the world.
From Paris to Pakistan, politicians, analysts and ordinary citizens said they hoped the Democratic takeover of Congress and the departure of defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld would force US President George Bush to adopt a more conciliatory approach to the globe’s crises, and teach a president many see as a “cowboy” a lesson in humility. (From Ireland Online)
What bunk. The drivel being carried by international media sickens me.
By now thinking Americans know that there is little difference between the politics of Republicans and Democrats. The Democrat win will no doubt cause many to heave a sigh of relief and go straight back to their slumber while the real power behind BOTH Democrats and Republicans continue their push for globalization. How do we know this? By the continual use of the term ‘bipartisan’. Very simply, Republican policies will be continued even though the House is now under Democrat leadership.
What policy changes can we expect?

Free Hugs Campaign - Video
2 Comments EMail This Post Published by Michael November 9th, 2006 in MusingsFrom Sydney Morning Herald, September 28, 2006
[Ed: What has this world come to, when police officers start banning hugging in the streets of Sydney?]
The man behind the latest YouTube sensation has spoken out for the first time about his global cuddling controversy. Serial hugger Juan Mann describes the free hugs he hands out…as fast-food emotion. His cuddling campaign received an international dose of publicity today, after a clip showing his public displays of affection won a coveted front page spot on the video sharing website. An American television audience of millions also watched him at work, when the video was broadcast on the prime-time breakfast program Good Morning America yesterday. Today, the hugger was at it again, brandishing his “free hugs” sign in the busy pedestrian thoroughfare, and having quite a few people take him up on his offer. “It’s a way to make people smile,” Mann said. “For every person who gets a hug, you see five walk past with a smile on their face.” But his efforts to spread the love became a little too popular for some people’s liking, according to a blurb on the YouTube video, which said: “As this symbol of human hope spread across the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED.” Undeterred, Mann collected more than 10,000 signatures on a petition he presented to the City of Sydney council. Demands for a halt to the hugs petered out shortly after, and the end of the clip shows Mann hugging an official. City worker Elly Mitchell, who handed out a few free hugs on her lunch break today, said she was inspired to organise [an] event after seeing the video online. “We’re going to hug the city,” Ms Mitchell said.
